Oftentimes the term “Oriental rug” brings to mind the image of opulent floral design. Though those pieces can be found frequently, in traditional Persian rug weaving geometric patterns prevailed. In fact, the oldest preserved rug ever found, the Pazyryk rug (found in a Skyth burial site at high altitude in permafrost and believed to be about 2500 years old) depicts deer in strictly geometric design.
